Type1 Superstar ✨Arlo✨

Arlo was diagnosed in the 25th March 2022, one month before his second birthday.

He was extremely lethargic and thirsty, wetting through him nappies multiple times a night. He was unwell for about two weeks, he went to the doctors and they told us that he was fine and only prescribed a cream for his nappy rash after arguing with us that we were “giving him too much juice and going to give him type 2 diabetes”.

We knew something wasn’t right and the next day took him to emergency asking for a glucose test he was there diagnosed with type one diabetes with glucose levels at 27.6mmL and ketones 6.6.

We luckily acted relatively quickly and after being put on a insulin drip, Arlo became well again by the next day.

Arlo’s journey has been extremely challenging with many complications, we’ve done our very best and he is happy, healthy and thriving.

Arlo gets excited when he sees other diabetics where’s dexcoms just like him. We’ve faced discrimination and judgment by Arlo’s teachers, nurses and the public.

We hope to help raise more awareness so he grows up in a positive and accepting environment.
